We all have to eat, right? Exactly. Well, what if money is running low and you need to choose between buying your next textbook or putting food on the table? The easy solution would be to just hit up a very cheap, yet very unhealthy fast food joint. Not exactly an ideal solution. What if that weren’t necessary? Groceries can be incredibly expensive, especially for college students with a limited budget. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to save some money on the things that you HAVE to buy?
Well, you can! There are a lot of things that you can do to save money on groceries. My next few posts are going to be highlighting the best systems and websites that will do just that. This may take some time and some energy out of you, and it won’t necessarily be easy, but it’ll be worth it. Just give it some time, and you’ll start seeing the savings racking up!
Let’s start with a very basic principle. Use COUPONS!!! Coupons are those things in the Sunday newspaper that are made to take $0.25 to $2.00 (typically) off many of the popular brands and items you’re likely buying. I know in my last post I assumed that you weren’t buying a Sunday paper, but this would be a good reason for you to start. You may think you’re too cool or whatever else to use coupons, but seriously, get over yourself. You can save a whole lot of money using coupons.
My suggested first step would be to buy the Sunday newspaper (I’d get the one from the biggest city in the state) and cut out all of the coupons that are in them. There’s tons of ways to store them, maybe you just start with a little plastic index card holder. That’s easy enough. So cut them out, and keep them handy. My next post will tell you how to get the most out of your coupons! Stay tuned for more!
